PPA in televised launch of Energy Saving Guide in St Lucia

12th August 2010

Under a project to provide technical assistance to the Government of St Lucia’s Sustainable Energy and Environment Section on the implementation of the recently ratified National Energy Policy, PPA Energy produced an Energy Saving Guide.  The purpose of the Guide was raise awareness amongst all sectors of society in St Lucia about the importance of saving energy and developing indigenous renewable energy resources to reduce the country’s almost total energy dependence on imported fossil fuels.  The project is funded by the European Union.

The Guide was launched in Castries on Tuesday 3 August by Mr George James, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Development and the Environment.  The launch included presentations to the winners of a competition to design a logo and slogan for the energy awareness campaign which was conducted in conjunction with the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in St Lucia.  Further launch meetings were held with senior civil servants, the St Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association and the St Lucia Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture.

The Guide, entitled  ‘Save Energy Costs’ includes energy saving tips which can be implemented at little or no cost covering the transport, domestic, hospitality and commercial sectors.  A step by step approach to the implementation of an energy saving programme is also presented.  Whilst targeted primarily at public sector, the recommended implementation procedure is equally relevant to the hospitality and commercial sectors.

The Guide was well received and the launch meetings were extensively covered on TV/radio and in the press in St Lucia. PPA Energy produced the guide and managed the overall publicity and launch campaign.
