PPA Energy is working under AETS of France in an EU funded project to assist AFUR – the African Forum for Utility Regulation – based in Pretoria, South Africa.  The work involves capacity building and training through a series of case studies and workshops, which will be held in Gambia, Kenya and South Africa.  Five main tasks are to be undertaken as follows:

• Review and assessment of the power market structure and model in five target countries;
• Training on economic fundamentals related to regulation;
• Training on public – private partnerships;
• A comparison  of supply costs and electricity selling prices in five target countries and;
• Training in regulatory aspects concerning quality of supply.

Work started in September 2009 and the project is scheduled to run for 2 years.
